AMERIKKKA V.S GLOBAL CITIZENS

The idea of leaving our place of residence looks different for everyone. I believe my home is within me no matter where I go. America is my place of birth, yet I consider myself a global citizen. Adventuring through travel has exposed me to unlimited possibilities for the human experience. At this moment, I am looking forward to visiting Tanzania as I prep for my trip; there are a few things I've been thinking about

Footprint

Sustainable tourism is a sparking conversation that more people are starting to have; it focuses on ways we can minimize the negative impact left on local communities during visits. Packing Light, for instance, is essential to limit the amount of fuel used to transport the weight of luggage. Single-use products made out of plastic which you want to avoid; this way, no trash is left behind. Investing in reusable materials is a great way to save money anyway! I would also advise supporting local markets rather than big companies to give back to the communities by eating sustainably.

Risk-taking

You are being risky means keeping an open heart with you during your travel experience. Be okay with taking a step back from what you know to take in the beauty of another world. Race the adrenaline; it's good for the soul, at least I think so.

Listen intently

You may think you only need your ears to listen. Still, to pay close attention, it's best to leave electronics behind to eliminate distractions from the internet, challenging you to practice asking questions to dive deeper into what, why, and how? If you're scared, it's okay; vulnerability allows you to share empathy to be empowered by the connection between you and the present moment.

Do you want to be a global citizen? It all begins with our conscious decision-making. Think about the intention behind your destination. Reflecting before your solo trip can prepare you to navigate situations outside your comfort zone. Seeing the world outside America is like breaking out of a box into freedom. Thinking from a global perspective gave me the space to be curious, so I'm not trapped in a closed mind. Our planet is beyond our understanding. It's given us magical ecosystems and oceans, and although we don't have ownership of Mother Nature, we have control over how we feel, love, think and connect. Once you realize that the beauty of the earth is within you, the world will indeed become yours.
